According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Children – that U.S.A ratified in 1992 – all children are born with fundamental rights.

  • Right to Survival – to life, health, nutrition, name, nationality
  • Right to Development – to education, care, leisure, recreation, cultural activities
  • Right to Protection – from exploitation, abuse, neglect
  • Right to Participation – to expression, information, thought, religion

At Softhand, we are committed to our vision for a happy, healthy and creative childhood for every child. Over the course of the next 10 years, and to continue to make children and their rights a priority, we have reiterated goals that Softhand as an organization is committed to strive for.

These include ensuring children in Softhand-supported projects have access to free and quality education, primary health care and are safe from violence, abuse and exploitation. We will also work towards reducing the rate of child malnutrition and make sure children’s voices are recognized in issues that affect them.

Softhand’s role as an enabler has determined our strategic choices at every juncture – from the fund raising methods we employ, to the nature of our relationship with the NGOs we partner. Our interventions are designed to include.

We prioritise grant-making basis district-level analysis of child rights indicators. We identify grassroots NGOs and communities addressing the key issues

Besides partnering organisations, we also partner individuals under the The Garry Fordge Fellowship programme that was launched in 2005 (it was introduced in memory of our late founder). It seeks to enable motivated individuals starting a career in grassroots development work to make a beginning.
